“Da Rin” is a work based on a selection of field recordings made in the Val Da Rin, a small valley located in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno (in Italy’s Veneto region). It is a side valley, to the right of the Val d'Ansiei, in the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore. Here are the coordinates to reach the site: 46° 32' 21.4" N 12° 21' 42.3" E

The recordings were collected along the Rin stream on a sunny afternoon in March 2021 and document the melting of the snow that had fallen heavily during the winter. The landscape was enchanting, the trees were still full of snow, but the forest road was beaten, and we could proceed easily. At first, we went down to the stream, where crampons had to be worn. We then climbed up the ridge to get back to the road and rested at a closed Alpine hut. We then continued up to the waterfall, where the Rin widens and a magnificent view of the Marmarole mountains opens up.

The recordings are in the exact order they were collected in, so as to give the listener an idea of the walk’s progression. Said recordings have been deliberately edited without applying fade in/out, except for the closing track. They represent a possible listening window onto reality, considered as the distinctiveness of the exact moment. Meaning that, if time before and after continues to exist in the phenomenal world, the act of recording - even if it is a poetic construction of meaning, and not of “making from nothing” in a strictly etymological sense (Plato, Symposium, 205, b) - becomes only capable of fixing a possible present in the continuous unraveling of the plot of time.
